How I Finally Beat Black Bear Guai (And You Can Too)
Black Myth Wukong Black Bear Guai boss guide reveals optimal skill build, stamina tactics, and spirit choices for a smoother victory.
That first real wall in Black Myth Wukong? For me, and probably for you, it was the Black Bear Guai. I stumbled into that burning arena back in '26, thinking my Level 18 Destined One was ready, and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty. After countless deaths, sweat, and a few controller-gripping panic moments, I found a rhythm. Now I'm going to share exactly how you can bring this fiery grizzly down without losing your mind.
First things first: your level and your sparks. I'd say 15 is the absolute floor, but 20 feels comfortable. The real magic is in your skill tree. With limited sparks, you can't just spray and pray. I re-specced three times before finding the sweet spot, heavily favoring Immobilize and stamina.

Here's the exact loadout that turned the tide for me:
-
Immobilize – Crash (2/2), Evanescence (1/1), Stagnation (2/2), Easy Prey (1/1)
-
Foundation – Simian Agility (1/2), Deft Evasion (1/1), Endurance (1/2), Everlasting Vigor (1/1), Composure (1/1), Bold Move (1/2), Ephemeral Shadow (1/1), Vengeful Mirage (1/1)
I know that looks like a lot, but trust me, freezing that big fella twice with a fully loaded Immobilize gives you precious windows to dump damage. The stamina investments (Deft Evasion and Composure especially) let you dodge for days without wheezing. For spirits, I became best friends with Guangmou. Those venomous vipers tick away at Black Bear Guai even while I'm panicking.
Phase One: The Slow-Burning Bear
The fight starts with a roar. Always a roar. I sprint in right away and get a full light attack combo while he's posing. He'll drop to all fours and teleport — don't chase, just breathe. This is where you need patience.
When he reappears, he's coming in hot with a lunging swipe that'll delete a third of your health bar. My move: dodge into him, not away. You'll end up behind him with a golden opening to punish. He's comically slow to recover, so I weave in a full light string, then wait. He'll often hop backward, then rear up and slam the ground. That slam has a recovery window wide enough to brew tea. Spend your focus points here on a heavy attack, then keep slashing.
A pro tip I learned the hard way: don't transform into a Wolf in phase one. I thought lighting his fur on fire was clever, but it triggers his second phase instantly. Unless you're some kind of masochist chasing a challenge, save that feral energy for later.
His teleport combos evolve slowly. The next time he disappears, he'll return with a two-hit swipe, then leap into a body slam. Again, dodge through him, let him crash, and punish the long wake-up. Stay calm; his pattern is like a repeated knock-knock joke — once you hear the setup, you know the punchline.
Phase Two: When the Arena Catches Fire
At just under half health, Black Bear Guai slams his fists into the ground, and suddenly... everything burns. Fire pools dot the arena, his paws become flaming wrecking balls, and even his teleport leaves a trail of scorching pain.
Here's where my earlier discipline pays off. I saved both Immobilize charges and my Cloud Mist spell exclusively for this phase. Cloud Mist is a lifesaver — not only does it give you a moment of invisibility to heal, it also cleanses the burning status. I made sure I had enough mana for two activations, and I used them whenever panic set in.
The boss starts phasing in and out more aggressively, and those fire patches? They'll ruin your day if you roll into them. I learned to always move in a wide arc before dodging. Guangmou's viper spirit came in clutch here — I popped it right after an Immobilize, letting the poison chip away while I repositioned.
When you do transform into a Wolf, use its lunging heavy attack. It's a safe, albeit stamina-hungry, way to land damage. Don't get greedy; one or two hits then back off. The bear's swipes hit like a truck filled with smaller trucks now, and you don't want to be staring at a "You Died" screen because you overstayed your welcome.
The Sweet Taste of Victory
After what felt like an eternity of dodging fire and landing heavy punishes, the bear finally crumbled. The rewards? Craving Eyes (your first Relic, with a choice of three passives), Flame Ebongold, Yarn, Silk, Yaoguai Core, Stone Spirit, and Mind Core. The relic itself is a game-changer, so pick wisely — I went with the one that boosted my next chapter's survivability.
The Black Bear Guai made me a better player. It forced me to manage resources, read patterns, and respect the danger of early transformations. If you're stuck right now, take a deep breath. Respec to my build, save everything for phase two, and remember: dodge into the bear, not away. You'll see that death screen less and less. And when you finally down him, you'll feel like the true successor to Wukong. Next up, the Tiger Vanguard... but that's a horror story for another day.
