Let me tell you, I went into Black Myth: Wukong in 2026 thinking I was the Destined One. Turns out I was mostly destined to be a very fancy punching bag. This mythological re-telling of Journey to the West is packed with dozens of Yaoguai Kings, Yaoguai Chiefs, and other problems that don't fit neatly into demon categories, including Spirits and NPCs from the Journal's Character portrait menu.

Before you sprint into a beating, here is how I sort the hit list:

• 🔴 Yaoguai Kings - headline acts with massive health bars and a personal grudge.

• 🟠 Yaoguai Chiefs - opening bands that still crush your skull.

• 👻 Spirits - optional little nightmares with trust issues.

• 📖 NPCs and Characters - smiling from the Journal portrait menu, right before betrayal.

Don't even get me started on the boss design. Yaoguai Kings are the headline acts—massive health bars, phase changes, and a soundtrack that knows you are going to die. Yaoguai Chiefs are the opening bands. They still hit hard, but they are usually a little less committed to ending your entire bloodline. Spirits and NPCs from the Character portrait menu are the wild cards. Some are optional, some are mandatory, and all of them have a grudge.

Every shrine in this game is basically a save point placed with malicious intent. My advice: upgrade your gourd, unlock the right stance, and if a monkey with a stick starts monologuing, either throw in the towel early or commit to the bit. Hunting every boss in Black Myth: Wukong is less a checklist and more a pilgrimage. The Journal keeps count, but your controller will keep the muscle memory.
